They had not gone far before Slade said, “I think we should use--”
“The insignificancy spell?” Shella completed for him. “Probably a good idea, although I thought you were waiting until we thought we might be close, so as not to have to cast it so often.”
He nodded. The spell worked something like invisibility, except that it didn’t make them invisible, it just caused people who saw them to ignore them as something that doesn’t matter. “Yeah, that’s a good reason. Wish I’d actually thought of it. Problem is, we don’t know where they are. They might already have spotted us, and of course once they’ve seen us the insignificancy spell doesn’t work unless they’re distracted and forget to look for us again.”
“That’s true. What do you suggest, my lord?”
“Well, milady, given that we might be miles from them--”
“Or they might be just over the next rise--”
“Right. Well, in that case, I’m going to suggest we try to move stealthily, and if we encounter anyone or see signs that we might, we’ll use the spell. And if we’re too late to use the spell, well, we’ll just have to handle the situation with other skills.”
“Indeed, my lord. As Doctor Kondor would say, it sounds like a plan.”
“It does, doesn’t it?” He smiled playfully.
