Previous chapter:  Chapter 89:  Kondor 150

It was a bit like waking up, but that he didn’t have that usual hangover headache and he wasn’t lying down.  He was however, entirely disoriented.  He tried to think of the last thing he remembered, but things were happening fast right now, and he wasn’t sure how to get ahead of them.

There was a red-haired girl standing right in front of him.  She was easy on the eyes, sexy, younger than he but certainly not a kid.  She was dressed entirely in white, with a lot of lace and some flowers, like she was getting married.  Also, she was holding his hand.  She had pulled the dragon control ring off his finger and was putting another ring on it, and saying, “With this ring I thee wed.”

With all the strange things that had happened to him, he wasn’t certain whether this was real, but at that moment a man in robes he had not previously noticed who was standing alongside them said, “I now pronounce you man and wife.  You may kiss the bride.”  Beam groaned, and said, “Not again.”

The girl glared at him and said, “What do you mean, not again?”

However, at that moment a dragon descended on the crowd.  Beam recognized it as the one he had been hunting, the reason he had had Bron make a dragon control ring for him.  He remembered that they had found the dragon, and he had decided to test the ring by seeing whether he could get control of the dragon.  The last thing he remembered was putting it on his finger; the next thing he remembered was this girl taking it off, and now the dragon was attacking.

With some urgency he said, “The ring!” but it was too late.  The girl dropped the ring and the dragon opened its mouth and proceeded to flambé the wedding party.  The heat was unbearable, and James blacked out, and knew that this time he must have died.
