That evening Lauren was brought something that was passably supper--a bowl of something like stew, a hunk of bread that might have been two to three inches off the end of a French loaf, and a cup of what she concluded was white grape juice blended with some other fruit she couldn’t identify. She ate it slowly, not wanting to make herself sick.
She grew very tired when she had finished. Tomorrow would be another day, and she wondered how they would attempt to kill her this time. She laid back on the hard wooden pallet and closed her eyes. She was soon asleep.
