Previous chapter: Beam 143
It’s time.
Lauren had heard that voice before. It wasn’t really a voice--it was more like a thought, but a thought that wasn’t actually her thought. Yet it was different from telepathy, as if it were her thought, or a thought that came from something inside her. She knew that voice. She also knew what it wanted.
But I’m not an evangelist, she thought back.
No, it said, you’re not; but you have been told to do the work of an evangelist.
She had no response to that.
“But,” she said aloud, “I’ve never preached to a multitude.”
You’ve fought the forces of evil, trained others to do the same, survived in the wilderness, and stood for the truth against oppression. How hard can preaching to a crowd be?
You have no idea, she thought.
Actually, I do.
Again, she couldn’t argue with that.
“So,” she said, “how do I begin? I’m going to need Bibles; I don’t know how to get those.”
I’ve given you the words. Use what you have.
Well, that seemed to settle the matter. Somehow she knew the voice wasn’t going to say anything else. The ball was in her court, as it were, and it was up to her to do something with it.
