As he reached the door of the lamp-lit room, he shut off the flashlight to save the batteries. Ashleigh was awake, propped on her elbow and covered by the blankets. She spoke first.
“Are you all right?”
He cleared his throat and steadied himself against the doorframe. “Yeah, I just needed to--to use the latrine. I’m not sure how I got here?”
“Bron carried you up. You fell asleep at dinner.”
Well, that was a charitable way to put it, he supposed. He’d have to thank Bron tomorrow.
“I removed your shoes.”
He nodded. “Thank you.”
“You really shouldn’t sleep in your clothes, you know.”
“Absolutely,” he replied. “Neither should you,” and he dropped his pants while stripping off his shirt, and was naked by the time he crawled under the covers close to her.
