Previous chapter: Brown 354
Reaching the lobby, Mister Justice herded people out. He thought of heading back inside to help Tommy, but remembered that he needed to use a phone. He stepped outside and saw nothing on the street, and this was urgent.
Drawing the sword, he focused on its ability to enhance his own abilities, and raced back to the church. He entered the office door and walked up to the secretary. "Pardon me, ma am; I need to use your phone."
She was flustered, but moved it to where he could reach. He called the operator.
"Operator, this is Mister Justice. I need to report a fire at the Berkeley Business Systems building, with flying arsonists attacking."
"I ll connect you," she replied, and in a moment he was giving the same information to the desk sergeant at the police station, who thanked him.
Then he hung up and dialed the now familiar number for William Tell, Junior. It rang four times and was then answered, "William Tell here."
"Tell, this is Justice. BBS is under attack by flying arsonists. We have people on the scene trying to contain it, but I thought you should know."
"Right," he said. "I ll get on it."
The line went dead, and Justice hung up the receiver.
"Thank you," he said.
"N-no problem," the nervous secretary replied. "Anytime."
He went back outside.
The three-block run had tired him, draining some of his energy. He had not considered whether there was a way to restore this other than rest--he remembered a television superhero who moved at super speeds and ate a tremendous amount of food, but now was not the time to try that. He should conserve and restore energy; he would have to walk back to the scene, and work from there.
